#OMG stands out with its vibrant magenta theme, reminiscent of Japan's iconic sakura and flag. The designers have carefully chosen this color to catch the attention of diners and create a memorable atmosphere. Custom-made lamps, a unique floor pattern, and square furniture imitate the rigid and angular pixels found in digital imagery, symbolizing the connection created by social media.
The realization of this design involved the use of various materials, including felt, LG Hausys solid surfacing material, stainless steel, ceramic tile, marble, and laminated glass. These materials were carefully selected to bring the concept to life and create a visually stunning space.
The design specifications of #OMG encompass an area of 180 square meters, providing ample space for diners to enjoy their meals in a stylish and contemporary setting. Located in Hong Kong, this restaurant showcases the fusion of Japanese cuisine and social media-inspired design.
Creating #OMG presented several challenges for the design team. One of the main obstacles was visually representing the non-visual theme of social media in the physical space. Additionally, finding furniture and decorations in the uncommon color of magenta proved to be a challenge. The installation of the large and heavy zigzag lamps, designed to represent pixelated images and the connection created by social media, also posed difficulties.
#OMG, designed by One Plus Partnership Limited, has received recognition for its innovative and creative design. The restaurant was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. #OMG contributes to the improvement of quality of life and showcases the designers' strong technical and creative skills.
With its unique fusion of hashtags and Japanese cuisine, #OMG offers a dining experience that combines the digital world with the traditional art of Japanese cooking. Step into this social media-inspired restaurant and immerse yourself in a vibrant and visually captivating atmosphere.
